Prior to Four Corners, Daniel served as the inaugural Director of Grants Development and Compliance at Malcolm X College, where he established and formalized an institutional grants program, secured nearly $12 million in funding for new and existing initiatives to promote educational equity, facilitated college-wide training for staff and faculty, and led donor cultivation efforts. Previously, Daniel served as a Grants Officer at The Rotary Foundation, where he evaluated and strengthened foundation-funded projects in 17 countries across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, awarding over $21 million in funding. Daniel launched his career at Heartland Alliance International, where he coordinated the nation’s first resource center for LGBTQ refugees and went on to oversee and advance a dynamic $15 million grant portfolio composed of mental health, counter-trafficking, and gender-based violence prevention programs spanning the Middle East, Central Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Daniel earned his bachelor’s degree in cultural anthropology from Beloit College in Wisconsin, and a master’s degree in public policy and administration from Northwestern University. Daniel previously served on the advisory council of Avodah, a Jewish social justice organization, and is currently a board member of the Next Generation Society for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Illinois. Prior to founding Four Corners, Kelly served as a member of Heartland Alliance International’s (HAI) senior leadership team, driving the organization’s rapid growth for nearly seven years. She built the first-ever External Relations Department, leading the development and implementation of HAI’s external relations and fundraising strategies. She doubled HAI's unrestricted fundraising revenues in one fiscal year, and oversaw a 500% increase in unrestricted revenue over the course of three years. Furthermore, she led HAI’s largest and most successful benefit, featuring Secretary Hillary Clinton as keynote speaker, Governor JB Pritzker, and other high-level speakers and attendees, which surpassed all fundraising, attendance, and sponsorship goals and increased revenue by more than 50 percent. During her tenure with HAI, Kelly also built the Program Development department, overseeing HAI’s program design and grant submission processes. In this role, she led a global team that submitted over 60 high-quality funding proposals a year to US, multilateral, bilateral, and foundation donors. She was also instrumental in the creation, launch, and successful execution of HAI’s five-year strategic plan. Kelly has dedicated her career to human rights and social justice through other roles including: supporting governance and democracy strengthening in West Africa; raising awareness around women and global development issues at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs; conducting HIV/AIDS research in Africa at Program of African Studies at Northwestern University; and supporting Girls’ Education and Empowerment as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Togo. Kelly earned a B.A. in Chinese and Anthropology from Bates College and a M.S. in International Conflict Management from Georgetown University. She speaks fluent French and conversational Mandarin Chinese. They have partnered with global queer advocates working to address violence, discrimination, and criminalization on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity/expression, and advocated for community-led approaches to queer liberation within international human rights, development and humanitarian programs. Kim is also passionate about supporting mission-driven people and organizations to align their practices, policies and culture with their values - work they have taken up in each of their prior roles, including as a facilitator for CARE International's Reflections on Equity, Diversity & Inclusion course for staff.
